A look at advances in aviation design in the quest for a safer air system. Cover photo on right was taken with a camera mounted on the vertical stabilizer of the jumbo jet liner. Santa Catalina Island is beneath the aircraft.

 

 

A Lockheed Tri-Star touches down "hands off" at Palmdale, California. This approximately 30 second time exposure shows the airport runway lights curving in an arc as the nose of the aircraft de-rotates on touchdown. For a more indepth discussion of this photo, see the "Say Cheese" link.
